About the school
The school was originally called Northaw - founded in 1881 at Northaw Place, Potters Bar, but then moved to Surrenden-Dering in Kent. In 1952 the school was destroyed by fire and moved to its present site here at Norman Court. The pews, lectern and some of the panelling in the Chapel were salvaged from the fire and brought to Norman Court. There is a memorial in the Chapel commemorating the safe delivery of the children and staff from the fire.
Norman Court is a Georgian Grade II listed building, owned in the past by the Singer family (sewing-machine manufacturers and race-horse owners/trainers) and Barings (bankers) as a private home. However, there has been a building on the site since the 1100s.
