The ACE Programme at Norman Court
ACE is a programme of study designed to develop pupils' education and understanding of the world beyond the classroom. The ACE framework has been set up by SATIPS (the organisation for Support and Training in Prep Schools) and so is recognised nationally within the independent school sector. The framework follows similar themes to the Duke of Edinburgh's award Scheme: these are Environmental Activities, Outdoor Adventure, Community Service and Personal Development. We offer a range of activities linked to these themes, and much of our Saturday timetable is devoted to the ACE programme.
There are four stages: Awareness (Years 3 and 4), Commitment (Years 5 and 6) and Empowerment (Years 7 and 8), with the emphasis on taking initiative and pupils developing their own projects. The children have record cards and are assessed at each stage gaining a pass, merit or distinction depending on their level of involvement and achievement. They receive certificates at the end of each stage.
Norman Court are proud to be one of the pilot prep schools for the ACE programme and all Norman Court staff and pupils are involved. It is a very exciting development for us all!
